Baher
Kamal, Advisor for Euro-Mediterranean
and Middle East Affairs
Baher Kamal is an
Egyptian born, Spanish national, with nearly 40 years of
professional experience as a journalist. During this
period, he held several posts, from reporter to special
envoy to chief editor of national dailies and an
international news agency. He also contributed to
prestigious magazines such as GEO and Natura, Spain.
Kamal served as Senior
Information Expert for Euro-Mediterranean Partnership MEDA
teams in Brussels. He was appointed the first ever
Information Officer of the United Nations Environment
Programme's Mediterranean Action Plan, based in Athens.
In addition to his long
professional experience in the Middle East affairs, Kamal
specialised, as well, in human development related issues
and South-South and North-South cooperation. He acted as
team Leader for the coverage of major world summits, such as
the Earth Summit in Rio do Janeiro in 1992.
Kamal speaks Arabic,
Spanish, English, and Italian and has knowledge of French.
He is also specialised in inter-cultural dialogue, and
follows closely the process of dialogue of civilisations. He
participated in all major events related to both subjects.
He has trained
journalists from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia,
Europe and Arab region. He has also been responsible for
organising media seminars covering a wide range of subjects,
from sustainable development to marine and land-based
pollution in the Mediterranean, biodiversity, and cleaner
industrial production, among others.
